Most egg donor applicants are eager to help build families as well as receive egg donor compensation. The initial egg donor questionnaire is the first hurdle toward that goal, but not everyone makes it. You want to stand out among the competition (and there is competition!).
The egg donor questionnaire includes statistics such as age, height, and weight, as well as basic information about health. These data points determine egg donor eligibility. But you may wonder why we ask for a photo: if you meet the requirements, why does physical appearance matter?
Firstly, a photo confirms that an actual person is applying. Secondly, from the donor egg recipients’ point of view, photos are probably the most essential part of an egg donor profile. Physical resemblance is the main search criterion for most hopeful parents. A photo reveals aspects of physical features that written descriptions cannot convey.
We have reviewed thousands of egg donor questionnaires along with thousands of photos. A really good-quality photo can turn a rejected egg donor application into one with potential.
Only one photo can be attached to the initial application, so make it a good one! If you qualify to become an egg donor with Northeast Assisted Fertility Group, we will ask for more later.
What Makes a Good Egg Donor Photo? Tips for Choosing the Best Picture
The photo should be relatively current, and you should be the only person in it. A headshot is preferable (for the initial egg donor questionnaire), but medium or full body shots can also work. It should be well-lit and in focus. Outdoor, natural light is always more flattering. You should be looking at the camera and (preferably) smiling. The background should be very simple and non-distracting; it should not overwhelm you. You should be dressed neatly in regular clothes (rather than a work uniform, graduation gown, prom dress, bathing suit, etc.). Do not digitally alter the photo in any way.
What Makes a Bad Egg Donor Photo? Common Mistakes to Avoid
Photos including more than one person can make it impossible to tell who is applying. “Selfies,” especially in front of mirrors or with your phone blocking your face, are typically poor quality. Action shots showing you skiing, rock climbing, etc., or wearing hats and sunglasses, obscure your features. Bathrooms (especially with visible toilets), disheveled rooms, and car interiors are poor backdrops. Digitally altered photos using Facetune or added graphics make the photo unreliable. Silly or seductive facial expressions or very revealing clothing are not appropriate.
