How Can International Intended Parents Work With a U.S. Surrogate?
International intended parents should become registered patients at an IVF clinic in the United States. NAFG can help with fertility clinic selection, surrogate matching, legal referrals, travel assistance, and coordination throughout the process.
One or two on-site visits would be required for the screening and the birth, but extensive travel would likely be unnecessary. Most communication can be conducted electronically. If you are using your own eggs or embryos, they can be shipped to the U.S., or you may go through your own egg retrieval cycle in the U.S. About two to three weeks in the U.S. would be required for this.

How Long Does International Surrogacy Take?
Once you register with us, it takes on average about two to three months to be matched with a qualified surrogate in the U.S. After that, the whole surrogacy process takes about 12-18 months to complete. Actual timelines can vary depending on matching, medical screening, IVF treatment, pregnancy, legal requirements, and individual circumstances.
What Happens After My Baby Is Born Through U.S. Surrogacy?
After your baby is born, there are several important legal and administrative steps before you can return home. These include establishing legal parentage, obtaining the birth certificate, obtaining travel documents or a passport, and completing any immigration or citizenship requirements that apply to your family.
The specific requirements depend on the intended parents’ nationality, the child’s circumstances, the state where the birth occurs, and the laws of the parents’ home country. International intended parents should work with experienced reproductive and immigration attorneys to understand the requirements that apply to their particular situation.

Do International Egg Donor Recipients Need to Travel to the United States?
The amount of travel required depends on whether you use frozen or fresh donor eggs and on the requirements of your fertility clinic. Frozen donor eggs may allow much of the process to be coordinated through your fertility clinic outside the United States, while fresh egg donation requires the donor to work with a U.S. fertility clinic.
How Long Does It Take to Work With an Egg Donor in the United States?
Frozen eggs can be shipped for thaw and fertilization within two weeks or so. The fresh egg donor process takes about four months from start to finish.
