How the Egg Donation Process Works

What to Expect as a New Hampshire Egg Donor

Northeast Assisted Fertility Group is not a medical or fertility clinic. Northeast Assisted Fertility Group is not a medical or fertility clinic. No appointments take place in our offices. Egg donor recipients choose egg donors from our database, and the medical appointments take place at the recipients’ fertility clinics. Most of the fertility clinics are in New England. If you have an opportunity to work with a clinic outside of the New England area, it is totally optional, and all the travel expenses are covered.

The first step is to submit the online egg donor application. If you are a good fit, our egg donor coordinator will respond within two days. There will be more forms and photos to submit, as well as a 1:1 interview, where all your questions will be answered. Then your egg donor profile is posted and you start the egg donation process as soon as there is a match.

Frequently Asked Questions About Egg Donation in New Hampshire

Does egg donation hurt?

Most egg donors report that the egg retrieval procedure itself is not painful because it is performed under light sedation. Some egg donors experience temporary bloating, cramping, or mild discomfort during the medication phase and for a few days after retrieval. Your fertility clinic will monitor you closely throughout the process to help ensure your safety and comfort.

How many times can you donate eggs?

According to guidelines from the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), women can typically donate eggs up to six times during their lifetime. Many egg donors choose to complete more than one egg donation cycle after having a positive experience.

Will becoming an egg donor affect my ability to have children later?

Egg donation does not deplete your ovarian reserve, and there is no evidence that egg donors experience infertility in the future.

How long does the egg donation process take from application to retrieval?

The timeline varies for each egg donor, but most egg donation journeys take several months from application to egg retrieval. Once matched with the donor egg recipient, the active donation cycle generally takes about three to four months.

Why might someone need an egg donor?

Someone may need donor eggs for many reasons, including diminished ovarian reserve, genetic concerns, medical conditions affecting fertility, cancer treatments, advanced maternal age, or because they are building families as single parents or same-sex couples.

Do egg donors have to travel?

Some travel is typically required for egg donor screening appointments and the egg retrieval cycle. However, many preliminary appointments can often be completed near your hometown. Travel expenses, accommodations, and transportation related to the egg donation process are always covered by our egg donor program.

What medical tests are required to become an egg donor?

Qualified applicants undergo comprehensive egg donor screening that may include bloodwork, genetic carrier screening, fertility testing, medical history review, and a psychological evaluation. These screenings help protect both the egg donor and the donor egg recipients.

Can I choose who receives my eggs?

Egg donors are typically presented with information about the donor egg recipient(s) before accepting a match. While the exact process varies, egg donors are never required to move forward with a match they are uncomfortable with.

What happens after the egg retrieval?

Most egg donors return home the same day as the egg retrieval procedure and resume normal activities within a few days. The fertility clinic provides recovery instructions and remains available if any questions arise.
